Gabriel's Oboes
A unique collaboration of two of the UK's finest oboists, the versatile Gabriel's Oboes provide live music for weddings and civil partnerships, as well as for celebrations and corporate events.
Based in the North of England, our broad repertoire encompasses all musical genres from Bach to Busted and Elgar to Elbow, and can help to give your special occasion a magical touch. Our unique sound is particularly suitable for ceremonies, and the versatility of the musicians means that we also provide music for receptions and functions.

Us
Gabriel's Oboes are Anna Cooper and Julia Wilson, two of the UK's leading oboists. Following prestigious jobs with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra respectively, Anna and Julia now have busy freelance careers working with many of the UK's top orchestras.
As well as playing for members of the Royal Family, Anna and Julia have worked with many famous names, including Katherine Jenkins, Alfie Boe, Luciano Pavarotti, Bryn Terfel, Lesley Garrett, Sir Paul McCartney, Sarah Brightman, Michael Ball and Russell Watson, and have played at events as varied as the Official Hong Kong Handover Ceremony and the Loo of the Year Awards!
Our Keyboard Players
Gabriel's Oboes are accompanied by one of two accomplished pianists, Gavin Meredith and Grant Green.
The Instruments
A member of the woodwind family of instruments, the Oboe developed from the shawm in the mid-17th Century. It has a clear, penetrating tone ideal for ceremonial music, but is also used for lyrical solos, such as the beautiful Gabriel's Oboe theme from the film "The Mission". The Sprightly Companion, an instruction book published by Henry Playford in 1695, describes the oboe as "Majestical and Stately, and not much Inferior to the Trumpet."
We also play the Cor Anglais, a larger, lower-sounding member of the oboe family, which has a more mellow, chocolatey sound. Listen to our sound clips of 'Chanson d'Amour' and '(Everything I do) I do it for You' to hear this gorgeous instrument.
